Agua Fria students and FFA chapters head to national competitions; district recognizes CTE success

Members of the Agua Fria Union High School District board paused their agenda to recognize Career and Technical Education students and multiple Career and Technical Student Organization teams that advanced to national competitions.
Speaker 3 opened the recognition by saying the district sent 48 students to national competitions this summer across DECA, FBLA, HOSA and SkillsUSA and announced Rocky Mountain Emmy nominations for five high school media programs. Emily Cox, the FFA teacher who introduced the students, said the district’s FFA program is the largest in the district with about 300 students and invited board members to visit Canyon View to see demonstrations.
Student speakers described how CTE and FFA shaped their interests and preparation. Grace Yonker, a senior at Canyon View, said, "CTE has really just impacted me through my life, and I'm very, very happy to have it." Other students described specific events they will compete in at nationals—livestock judging teams will judge multiple classes and deliver oral reasons, and chapter award applicants will present community service and chapter goals.
Board members thanked students and staff for representing the district, and Superintendent Heasley and other leaders praised the programs as an example of district success in developing career pathways.
What happens next: Students and staff are scheduled to attend national competitions in coming weeks; board members encouraged community attendance at local demonstrations and events.
