Agua Fria board hears summer bond project progress, including Oliveria kitchen rebuild and campus upgrades

The Agua Fria Union High School District presented summer bond-funded facilities work to the governing board on June 4, detailing site-by-site projects and timelines. District staff said Oliveria High School will undergo a full cafeteria and kitchen teardown and rebuild with an anticipated appearance by about Christmas; the school will also receive a chiller replacement (SFD-funded), auditorium HVAC work, and replacement of art sinks and plate traps. Barbara Duncan and Principal Adam Daniels were thanked for coordinating cafeteria operations during the rebuild.
District staff described Desert Edge High School’s cafeteria expansion as an enclosure of the existing outdoor eating area to add considerable square footage and relieve crowding; new student tables will be added. At Millennium High School the district is sequencing a large core-campus renovation so work can progress through the school year without adding portables, and staff are coordinating alarm, phone and network systems with DLR Architects and the Chase Building Team. Verrado High School is replacing two cooling towers and a heat exchanger. The district also reported resurfacing a YMCA lap pool after a major crack and is winding down that repair.
Superintendent identified in the meeting recognized project staff in attendance — Mark Gonzales (project manager), Ernie Molina (director of field operations) and Mary Hammonds (director of facilities) — and invited board members to tour active sites. The board asked for clarification about the YMCA pool partnership; staff confirmed the district owns the lap pool used by the YMCA program. A WestMEC partnership at the Goodyear campus was noted; staff said some WestMEC-related construction may not be complete at the start of school and that temporary space has been arranged on a nearby campus if needed.
The district did not provide firm dates for every project completion beyond estimates in the presentation and encouraged the board to contact facilities staff for site tours and ongoing updates.
