The Agua Fria Union High School District Governing Board voted to adopt revisions to the 2025–26 school‑year calendar that move graduation from Saturday, May 16 to Thursday, May 14.
Allen, the board member presenting the calendar item, told the board the change would allow the district to secure Desert Diamond as the venue. "This would allow us to change venues to Desert Diamond... which overwhelmingly from parents, from students, from the community, as well as our staff was a much better, more intimate venue for our graduates and for our families," Allen said.
District staff said, pending board approval of an instructional‑time model, the board plans to propose a virtual day for students in grades 9–11 on May 14 while seniors participate in commencement. The motion adopted the calendar change with an option to make May 14 a non‑school day for all students and directed staff to return with a proposed instructional‑time adjustment if needed.
The motion was moved and seconded and roll‑call responses in the transcript include 'Silk: yes,' 'Naylor: yes,' 'Colton: yes,' and 'Acton: yes.' The board elected to adopt the calendar change with conditions noted in the motion.
