District bond projects: cafeteria expansions, Millennium concourse finished, Millennium remodel planned

Mary Hammes, the district’s director of facilities, gave a status update on bond-funded construction projects across Agua Fria Union High School District.
Hammes described expansion work at one older campus cafeteria and at Desert Edge High School: "The dining space went from about 7,800 feet to 13,000 square feet," she said, and said kitchen space grew from about 3,300 square feet to roughly 9,000 square feet. She added Desert Edge gained an additional 1,500 square feet of interior space plus about 4,200 square feet of covered patio.
Hammes said the Desert Edge barn is complete and is awaiting final approval from the fire marshal before occupancy; a ribbon cutting was scheduled for Aug. 28. At Millennium High School, she said the stadium concourse is finally complete and ready for this fall. The district also described a large campus remodel at Millennium planned so the district can sequence construction without buying portables, which officials said will save "a couple million dollars."
The board heard drone and site photos of ongoing work, and staff invited board members to tour completed spaces. A separate technology update noted summer work to improve network connectivity and backend security was finished and will be monitored during the school year.
