Superintendent outlines multifunction storage building, HVAC issues at Wadley and budget hearing schedule

The superintendent told the Randolph County Schools board on Aug. 7 that a previously described 'storage building' is intended as a multifunction warehouse to house Chromebooks, consumable textbooks, spare desks and a work counter where technology staff can repair devices.
"That building is gonna have a section of it for computer storage and a place where if Caitlin and Matthew need to get out there and work on computers, they'll have a counter and they can work on," the superintendent said, describing the planned workspace for device repairs and an improved system to sort publisher pallets by school.
He said the facility will also provide better storage for desks and other bulky items that currently lack a centralized space. The superintendent asked the board to view the structure more as a warehouse than a simple storage room and said the goal is to make distribution and repairs more efficient.
On facilities maintenance, he reported ongoing HVAC problems at Wadley. He said he met with the engineer and that the manufacturer will consult with installation contractors to determine the source of the recurring failures on relatively new units.
Regarding the budget calendar, the superintendent said the district must complete two budget hearings by the 15th of the month and proposed holding work sessions the week before: a meeting on the 9th and the regular meeting on the 11th, with the normal board meeting currently scheduled for the 18th. He noted that Bethany has begun budgeting work.
He also announced that members who completed school board governance training would receive certificates and named several recipients in the packet.
The superintendent concluded his report and invited questions; a public commenter later raised road-safety and pavement concerns in Wadley, which the superintendent said would require contacting a different DOT district office.
