The Sumner Bonney Lake School District board voted to adopt educational specifications to expand Bonney Lake High School after a presentation by Wade Jensen of design firm BCRA.
Jensen said an Ed‑Specs committee of district staff, teachers, students and community members produced guiding principles (modern, flexible, timeless) and a space program that proposes about 44,000 square feet of new addition and 10,000 square feet of renovation. Key program elements include a reconfigured welcome center, consolidated student services, new classroom wings with flexible learning areas, a relocated JROTC suite, and improved bus loading and drop‑off circulation.
Jensen reviewed adjacency diagrams, massing options and a site plan that showed minimal net loss of parking and added queuing lanes to improve the pickup/drop‑off flow. Athletic fields were proposed for artificial turf with new lighting and intersection improvements were included in the schematic. Jensen said the project is on schedule to bid in 2026, start construction in summer 2026 and reach estimated completion in 2028; the initial cost estimate received during schematic design came in under the project budget.
After the presentation the board adopted resolution 23/24‑25 accepting the Ed‑Specs required by OSPI as part of state funding provisions.
What happens next: The district will move from educational specifications into schematic design and continue community engagement; staff said the project would be bid in 2026 with construction to begin in summer 2026 and estimated completion in 2028.
