Citrus Heights issues two proclamations; community mural and Good Neighbor Week highlighted

At the Sept. 24 meeting the Citrus Heights City Council issued two ceremonial proclamations and heard several public comments.
Council member Schaeffer read a proclamation declaring September 2025 Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and noted screening and early detection benefits; Carl Washington of the Greater Sacramento Prostate Cancer Support Group accepted the proclamation and urged men to talk to their doctors. "If we get more men talking to their doctors, then more doctors will talk to more men," Washington said during his remarks.
Council member Middleton presented a proclamation recognizing September as Firefighter Appreciation Month and Oct. 4, 2025 as California Firefighters Memorial Day. Battalion Chief Mike Sloane of Metro Fire accepted the proclamation and described the memorial event and the department’s commitment to the community.
During public comment Gigi of Citrus Heights Arts described a community mural event where police officers participated and encouraged council to view photos; Tim Scribe representing Green Waste Recovery said the company would participate in any future RFP for waste, recycling and organics collection; Kathy Morris, president of REACH, promoted Good Neighbor Week (Sept. 27–Oct. 4) and encouraged neighborly acts.
Proclamations and the public comment items were accepted as informational; no formal council action was required.
