Board adopts new high-school environmental and earth-and-space science materials

The Sumner School District Board of Directors approved adoption of instructional materials for high-school science courses during its Sept. 16 meeting.
Kara Wilson, the district’s TOSA for secondary curriculum, recommended the texts: an environmental science title ("Your World, Your Turn") for 11th grade and a set of earth-and-space science materials for 10th and 11th grades. The board noted the first readings for these materials took place at the Aug. 20, 2025 meeting. Following motion and second, the board approved both adoptions by voice votes.
A board member, speaking as a former high-school science teacher, said the materials were impressive and noted they would open opportunities for students to access new coursework.
The adoptions were made under district policy 2020 (course design, selection and adoption of instructional materials). Implementation will follow the district’s curriculum and materials processes.
