Board approves borings to assess asphalt thickness, prioritize parking-lot repairs

The Enterprise City Board of Education on July 31 approved a proposal to perform geotechnical borings at school asphalt drives and parking areas so staff can assess pavement thickness and prioritize repairs.
Dr. Thomas introduced the proposal from UES (the transcript also includes a version spelled "USUES") and recommended the board approve the work so the district can determine which parking lots are in greatest need of repair. "Because we're evaluating...we're looking at redoing most of, if not all of the parking lots, but in a timely manner, we can't afford to do them all at 1 time," Dr. Thomas said. "So we wanna see which ones are in the greatest need."
An unidentified board speaker asked for clarification on technical scope: "What we're doing is just we're doing moorings to determine the thickness of the asphalt." Dr. Thomas confirmed the borings are intended to measure asphalt thickness so the district can extend the life of some surfaces by choosing appropriate treatments and schedule more extensive resurfacing where needed.
Board members moved, seconded and approved the proposal by voice/raise-of-hand. Dr. Thomas said the results will inform a prioritized, phased repair schedule rather than immediate district-wide resurfacing.
Next steps: UES will perform borings at the locations identified in the district packet; staff will return with findings and a recommended prioritization and schedule for repairs.
