State audit finds no findings for Cullman County Schools; board approves routine business and personnel notices

An audit manager from the Alabama Examiners of Public Accounts presented a clean audit for Cullman County Schools covering Oct. 1, 2023, through Sept. 30, 2024, and the board followed with routine approvals and personnel actions.
April Purser, audit manager for the Examiners of Public Accounts, said auditors "issued an unmodified opinion on the board's financial statements," the highest available audit opinion, and added they also issued an unmodified opinion on the board's major federal financial assistance programs, which this year included Title I and COVID-19 Education Stabilization Funds. Purser said there were "no audit findings" and that the full report is available on the Examiners' website.
Following the audit presentation, the board approved routine agenda items by voice vote: the April minutes; personnel items 2 through 11; school requests (items 12—24); financial statements (items 25—27); authorizing bank accounts for two new schools (items 28—29); out-of-state field trips (item 30); surplus and sale of a school bus (item 31); surplus of old weight equipment (item 32); transportation and child nutrition items (33—36); maintenance item (37); and an addendum (addendum No. 2) to a sewer agreement with Living Waters Utilities (item 38). The motions were made, seconded and carried by voice vote.
The board also authorized written notice to certain probationary certified personnel of nonrenewal of contract for the 2024-25 year and approved notification that specified supplements will not be extended into the 2025-26 school year. Both actions were approved by voice vote; the record shows motions and seconds but does not include a roll-call tally.
Superintendent Dr. Barnett reported end-of-year logistics (student last day in May with 1 p.m. dismissal, teachers' last day May 23, district closed Memorial Day) and noted summer hours (four-day work week from June 6 through July 25). The board announced its next regular meeting for Thursday, June 12, 2025.
