District sets $1.7M technology budget, earmarks $500K for Chromebook refresh

Board members questioned device lifespan and repair processes. Jesse said Chromebooks typically have a 6-year life from initial manufacture date and that the district tries to fix devices but expects turnover; he reported the district has over 6,000 Chromebooks and three technicians. The district uses some textbook dollars and local funds for technology, and recent IT renewals voted by the board are reflected in current-year money versus next-year budgets.
The board sought assurance there are swap or loan options for students whose devices fail; Brad and Jesse said schools should maintain replacement devices for short-term swaps and the district will review repair and reporting processes.
