The Cullman County Schools board opened its meeting with a series of recognitions for students, coaches and staff who achieved state and national honors.
Superintendent Dr. Barnett and board members presented an inclusion award to Mason Vos for his efforts to include a student named Noble in his basketball program; Noble presented a note and a game photo in thanks. The board also recognized School Resource Officer Daryl Daley after noting he had been selected as the Alabama instructor of the year for the program formerly called D.A.R.E. (now described in the record as a LEHI program) and had been recognized at a national event in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The board congratulated the West Point High School Scholars Bowl team and coach Mr. Henry for winning a national championship. Coach Henry described the team's multi-year journey and, speaking to the students, said, "I told them I loved them," after recounting a late-game comeback that led to the title.
Other recognitions included the West Point state champion boys golf team and the West Point girls' team (state runner-up); Fairview Elementary's robotics team, which qualified for state by winning county-level awards; Fairview High School's robotics team's national results; Cold Springs FCCLA competitors advancing to nationals in Orlando; and the Cold Springs girls track team, which earned multiple state titles and all‑state honors. The meeting also highlighted CareerTech and SkillsUSA accomplishments and included a call from the superintendent for continued board investment in a future, state-of-the-art CareerTech facility.
The recognitions were largely ceremonial: students, coaches and staff were invited to the front of the room, several offered brief remarks, and board members expressed appreciation for their accomplishments.
