District plans to buy six buses, use $515K fleet renewal funds to refresh routes

Jesse said the fleet-renewal pot has accumulated over several years and that the district had previously used EA&T money for bus purchases when allowable. He explained the state’s fleet-renewal allocation applies to route buses that are ten years old or newer; currently all route buses meet that standard so the district is receiving the maximum allocation. The presenter emphasized maintenance savings from buying and rotating newer buses and noted that the last six purchased addressed buses that lacked air conditioning; all route buses are now air-conditioned.
Board members praised mechanics and asked about air conditioning and planned maintenance. Jesse said the plan will be reviewed annually and that the district retains a rainy-day balance in fleet-renewal for unexpected needs.
