The Cullman County Schools Board approved a two-year athletic training contract with Encore after the district presented an RFP at its Sept. 11 meeting. Dr. Barnett said Encore has served the district previously but the new contract reflects additional costs for on-campus athletic trainers.
“...we're having to pay $20,000 per athletic trainer that we have on our campuses,” Dr. Barnett said while introducing the item. Board members said two other companies expressed interest but did not submit bids. Some members expressed concern about the cost trajectory and signaled the district may need to seek alternatives if the price continues to rise.
Dr. Barnett also noted Encore holds other district contracts for student physical and occupational therapy and said the district paid “over a quarter of $1,000,000” this past year on those services. The board approved the athletic trainer contract by voice vote; the chair recorded a no vote.
