Canfield board approves hires, daily subs and three-year contract for curriculum director

At its June 11 meeting the Canfield Board of Education approved a slate of personnel actions for the 2025–26 school year, including resignations, licensed and classified hires, substitute staffing pay rates and a three-year administrative contract for an assistant superintendent/curriculum director.
The board accepted the resignation of Allison Bain, high school intervention specialist, effective May 30, 2025, and approved hires including Cheryl Tubic (Campbell sixth-grade teacher) at $45,006.13 and Patrick Pavlanski (high school chemistry teacher) for 2025–26. The board also approved licensed daily substitutes at $120 per day and classified hires at $16.73 per hour (reassignments noted for lunch and playground aide roles). The items were presented as exhibits and approved by motion and roll-call vote.
Separately, the board approved the recommendation to hire John Bitto as assistant superintendent/curriculum director under a three-year administrative contract effective Aug. 1, 2025, through July 31, 2028, at $95,000 per year. The contract was described on the record as a retire/rehire arrangement. Board members moved, seconded and approved the action by roll call.
Board members said they will proceed with the hire and implement the planned staffing for the coming school year; no appeal or defections were recorded in the votes.
