Canfield treasurer Patty Prince to retire at year-end; board accepts resignation

Patty Prince, treasurer for the Canfield Board of Education, announced at the June 11 meeting that she will resign effective Dec. 31, 2025 after 39 years with the district. "It's with mixed emotions that I announce my resignation as treasurer effective 12/31/2025," Prince said, and she offered to assist with transition tasks through February 2026.
Board members responded with thanks and recognition for Prince's long service and fiscal stewardship. President Atway said the district's cash reserves and fiscal discipline — which Prince helped manage — allowed the district to continue operations through recent budget pressures. "Your fiscal responsibility in maintaining the discipline that was necessary for this school district has allowed us to weather a number of storms," Atway said.
The board moved to accept Prince's resignation and approved the motion by roll call. Members discussed starting the succession process promptly so the board can participate in selecting a successor and benefit from Prince's input on desirable qualifications. Prince said she will be available to assist with the transition after her official departure.
The board did not set a firm date for appointing a successor at the June 11 meeting; members said they expect to begin the search and post the role in the coming months. The board also noted it will continue to acknowledge Prince at regular meetings through her remaining tenure.
