Commissioner Jason Sarfoie framed the hire as a necessary step to give county leaders and fire boards independent expertise as they consider options for EMS delivery and a potential county fire territory. Jeff Dixon introduced himself to the meeting as a paramedic with 25 years of experience and senior supervisory roles in air-medical operations and clinical oversight.
"My name's Jeff Dixon. I'm a nationally registered paramedic...I've been a paramedic for 25 years," Dixon said, summarizing his clinical credentials and oversight responsibilities.
Following Dixon's brief introduction, the board moved on a voice vote to approve the contract. Commissioners and board chairs said the consultant will work with local fire boards and county staff to scope a fiscal analysis and operational options, after which the consultant will present findings to the boards and commissioners for consideration.
The contract approval was procedural and limited to retaining the consultant; it did not commit the county to a specific model for EMS delivery or territory formation. Commissioners said the consultant's report and the requested financial analysis will guide any future formal decisions.
