Miss Gardner said 24 teachers successfully completed the district’s new-teacher induction program, which met the second Wednesday of each month from September through April and included sessions on IEP roles and special-education law, common planning time and instructional technology led by Ed Dunn, Octavia Tokley, Kate Crossett and Dr. Haley.
Gardner also reported that the district held a hiring fair on May 8 at Penwood Middle School after feedback that Penwood High School’s space felt too large for the event. The hiring fair drew 25 attendees; most candidates were interested in non-instructional positions, though some sought teaching roles. Principals met with candidates the following week and made recommendations to hire for Park Lane, Ninth Grade Academy and Penwood High School.
What’s next: Gardner encouraged staff to add their names to a rolling panel list for volunteer administrative interview panels and noted the district is working to make panel selection more transparent.
