Unidentified Speaker 1 reported that all four bargaining units received a one‑year contract extension in June 2024 and that the district’s objective is to secure multiyear agreements going forward. Salary and benefits remain the primary areas of negotiation, the presenter said.
The presenter said the district met with WPEA-represented teachers yesterday and provided a counterproposal to the teachers’ October/November submission. ‘‘We met with WPEA, the teachers, yesterday, and we gave them our counterproposal,’’ Unidentified Speaker 1 said. Negotiations on economic items were paused earlier due to funding questions and the parties are now attempting to move on non-economic items while continuing talks on compensation.
Unidentified Speaker 1 described the start of bargaining with ESPA (clerical staff): the unit held an opening session with a mediator on Jan. 6 to declare intent to bargain, but ESPA had not yet finished assembling a bargaining team or completing member canvassing. The presenter said the district hopes to begin substantive meetings after mid‑February. The ESPA contract expires in June 2025.
On school safety officers, the presenter said the one-year extension (effective 07/01/2024 through June 2025) included a wage increase and expanded medical benefits: ‘‘We increased it to $20 an hour,’’ Unidentified Speaker 1 said, adding the rate had been $15 previously and that dependent coverage was added to medical benefits.
Act 93 managers received a one‑year extension without a salary increase but were allowed to accrue vacation up to 40 days; accrual stops once the bank reaches 40 days and employees must use time or risk losing additional accrual, the presenter said.
The committee discussed posting and process logistics but took no formal votes. The district did not announce final agreements; timelines and next bargaining sessions remain subject to scheduling and union readiness.
