A Valdosta resident asked the city council to address persistent noise, speeding and safety concerns in his neighborhood. Cecil Hardy, who gave his address as 1006 Bridal Street, said a construction business and heavy traffic have made his street noisy and dangerous and that previous requests to the city have not resolved the problem.
"It's noisy, overcrowded traffic... nobody respect the speed," Hardy said, describing frequent passing, train noise and an incident involving a near-fatal crash by an alleged drunk driver. He asked the council to have staff inspect the neighborhood and consider measures such as reducing speeds or adding guardrails.
Mayor Pro Tem acknowledged the request and said the city had Hardy's contact information; City Manager Richard Hardy said he would get with the correct department to ensure someone follows up. The council did not take immediate action at the meeting beyond the referral and the city did not provide a timeline for inspection or remediation.
The exchange occurred during the "citizens to be heard" portion of the agenda; the meeting record shows staff agreed to contact the resident and the appropriate department to review the reported issues.
