Scott County proclaims National Hispanic Heritage Month; Chamber highlights local events

The Scott County Board of Supervisors on Sept. 25 approved a resolution recognizing Sept. 15–Oct. 15 as National Hispanic Heritage Month.
At the meeting, an unnamed supervisor read the proclamation, which cited the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans and noted a figure of 62,100,000 people of Hispanic or Latino origin in the United States. The board voted to approve the resolution and made it effective immediately.
Luisa Ewert, board treasurer and legislative chair of the Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, thanked the board for its support and invited residents to local events. She said the Viva Hispanic Heritage Festival will be held in downtown Muscatine on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the chamber’s annual gala will be Oct. 17 at Rhythm City with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. She directed listeners to the Chamber’s website for more information.
The proclamation and remarks were offered during the meeting’s agenda under the proclamation item; the board approved the resolution by voice vote.
