Snyder Lions Club urges county help after carnival pullout, asks for lower deposit and damage invoice
Summary
The Snyder Lions Club treasurer told the court the private carnival will not return this year, warned the loss will sharply reduce the club's community donations, and asked the county to lower the $5,000 damage deposit and provide a line-item invoice for prior park damage; commissioners said they would seek an invoice and discuss the issue at the next meeting.

Vivian Mero, identifying herself as treasurer of the Snyder Lions Club, urged Scurry County commissioners to help find a replacement carnival after the regular private carnival operator declined to return this year.
Mero said the Lions Club typically received 15% of the carnival's gross receipts (last year reported in packet as $11,001.58) and that the club budgets annual community donations on that revenue. She said last year the county required a $5,000 deposit to cover potential park damage and that the club never received an itemized invoice explaining how damage claims were calculated when the county returned funds. Mero asked the court to consider lowering the damage deposit and to provide a detailed invoice so the club can record expenses and make decisions about future events.
County officials and commissioners responded that the deposit requirement was intended to protect county assets and public safety after prior incidents; one court participant said carnival equipment had caused damage to a power panel that temporarily knocked out restroom power, and county staff committed to pursue a documentation/invoice for the Lions Club. Commissioners said they would not necessarily aim to exclude carnival operators and expressed willingness to work on logistics such as providing an electrical pole hookup for carnival trailers and exploring lower deposit alternatives.
What happens next: County staff said they would attempt to contact the carnival operator (and asked Mero to share contact information), procure the requested invoice documenting damage and reimbursements, and place further discussion on the next court agenda.
