The Newton County Commissioners Court voted Aug. 19, 2025, to change the rental procedure for the Deauville Senior Center so that use and rentals are limited to Newton County residents.
A presenter told the court the county had spent roughly $24,000 on building and fencing improvements and that nonresidents booking events (including multiple bridal bookings) had limited local seniors’ access. Commissioners said restricting rentals to county residents would prioritize those who pay county taxes and maintain the facility.
A motion to change the contract procedure to residents-only was made, seconded and adopted. Staff were directed to update the contract language and implement the change.
Next steps: county staff to revise the rental contract language and return it to the court for filing and implementation.
