Newton County awards $113,381 road overlay contract to Mason Construction

Newton County Commissioners approved a contract Aug. 19, 2025, to accept Mason Construction's bid to place a 2-inch overlay on County Roads 3125 and 3126. The bid presented in the meeting packet showed a square-yard price that totaled $113,381.40 for the two roads.
The presenter said the funds for the work will come from the dedicated road fund, the lateral road fund and the general road and bridge fund; commissioners asked that the auditor review the bid prior to final execution. One commissioner who had observed Mason Construction’s recent work on County Road 4129 said the contractor performed well and worked cooperatively with residents.
A motion to accept Mason Construction's bid for the two roads, contingent on auditor review, was made, seconded and carried.
Next steps: Auditor to review bid documents and staff to return with contract for signature and project scheduling.
