Barnes said the new mesh electrodes will reduce the need for cleaning on that unit for another five to seven years; the plant will still plan to budget for cleaning the other generator.
Council moved to approve the request and the motion passed by voice show-of-hands. Barnes emphasized safety needs during the work, noting that improper cleaning can risk explosion and that technicians must work in near-oil-free conditions. The contract was described as necessary to avoid the much larger cost of replacing an entire ozone generator.
