Scott County moves forward with remounts for two aging ambulances, project stays under budget

Scott County officials reviewed plans to remount two older ambulance boxes and said the work is budgeted and necessary to keep emergency vehicles reliable.
A county presenter described the remount as a “frame‑off” refurbishment that removes the ambulance box from its old chassis and transfers it to a new chassis, replaces HVAC, fixtures and flooring, repairs cabinets and wiring, repaints the exterior and refreshes lighting. “It’s a pretty complex job. It takes three months to complete,” the presenter said.
County staff said both ambulances are 2019 Lifeline boxes with high mileage and meet fleet replacement criteria. The chassis to be installed is a model‑year ’27 Ford E‑450 cutaway; staff said the expected box life is roughly 12 years with a midlife remount and the chassis life about six years.
The vendor identified for the remounts is an approved Lifeline dealer in Sterling, Illinois; staff said using an approved dealer preserves the Lifeline warranty on cabinetry and body work. Staff also told the board the FY2026 budget includes $560,000 for remounts and that the quoted cost for these two units comes in under the budgeted amount.
Board members asked about new county branding on the units; staff said the county is working with a branding firm on a new wrap and will bring design concepts to the Board of Supervisors for approval before installing a new logo.
The item was handled as an informational procurement briefing; staff said they will proceed with the planned remounts and that funds are available in the FY2026 budget.
