Consultant Suzanne Bankhead of JPW Communications and city staff presented the kickoff for the Tustin Legacy outreach process, which the city characterized as a chance to revisit the specific and local reuse plans guiding development of the former Marine Corps air station site.
Bankhead said the meeting marked "the kickoff of our official outreach process" and summarized outreach goals: raise awareness of the site's history and current plans, gather community input to guide future development opportunities, and inform residents about ways to be involved. The team identified two early focus areas centered on hangars and said the process will include signage in Old Town and transit locations, social media and water-bill notices, an online survey, tabling at community events (including the Easter celebration and Viva Tustin), bus/interactive site tours in summer and fall, and a May 13 open-house workshop at the annex at Tustin Legacy from 6–8 p.m.
Council members described the effort as a step to increase public engagement after earlier planning rounds and encouraged broad participation. Councilmember Gallagher and others emphasized the importance of offering opportunities for "big ideas" and aligning the outreach with city goals for the remaining roughly 500 acres. No vote was required; the presentation set a public-engagement schedule and contact channels for residents.
