The Hood County Commissioners unanimously approved an early renewal of the county's contract with Axon Enterprises, including a cybersecurity addendum and consolidation of certain legacy contracts to preserve current pricing and avoid a July price increase.
Sheriff's office representatives explained that the renewal consolidates multiple contracts (including tasers and data plans) and adds network equipment (Cradlepoints) and support. Commissioners acknowledged the total multi-year contract figure but were told the immediate request is to approve the delta to be included in next fiscal year's budget; the county has a local fund (the H CAD refund) with sufficient balance to cover the immediate difference if needed.
Commissioners discussed liability, how Cradlepoint networking connects vehicle systems to county IT, and the importance of cybersecurity clauses. County counsel and vendor legal teams reviewed contract language and cleared the cybersecurity addendum prior to the vote. The motion to approve the early renewal and addendum passed unanimously.
