Cerritos asks Economic Development Commission to study Philippines sister‑city option; council receives historical report

Mayor Pro Tem Linda Johnson said the council will ask the Economic Development Commission (EDC) to research and develop recommendations for adopting a sister city in The Philippines and underscored that the city intends to partner with non‑profit community groups to minimize fiscal impacts. "It is not the intent of this council or the city to bring in a program that would impact our budget," Johnson said, and council directed staff to proceed with EDC review.
After public comment that urged accountability and meaningful follow‑up, the council voted 5–0 to receive and file the report and to direct staff to report findings from the EDC when available.
