Hood County Commissioners approve safety award, proclamations and multiple procurement actions

At its May 13 meeting in Granbury, the Hood County Commissioners Court moved through a broad consent agenda and several routine actions, including proclamations, an award presentation, procurement decisions and administrative policy updates.
Proclamations and awards: The court proclaimed 05/27/2025 as a "Choose to Move" day honoring the late Trey Gordon and recognized the county’s 2024 Safety Achievement Award from the Texas Association of Counties Risk Management Pool. Nick Agariches of TAC told the court that Hood County was one of 16 members statewide to earn the distinction for workplace safety and workers’‑compensation control.
Procurement and contracts: Commissioners authorized the county judge to sign the City of Granbury event application for the Brazos River Corvette Club show on Oct. 11, 2025. The court awarded RFB 2025‑04 (aggregates for surface treatment) to Vulcan Construction Materials and named Green Dream International as alternate; both motions carried unanimously. RFP 2025‑05 (retaining wall, Acton Annex) and RFP 2025‑06 (storm drain and paving at Acton Annex) were both awarded to Patcom Services with funding noted from Fund 55. The court also approved an access and liability agreement allowing county contractors to work on the retaining wall at the neighboring Family Dollar property.
Personnel, policy and finance: The court approved a prorated certification pay for a justice of the peace clerk who attained certification through the Texas Justice Court Training Center (approximately $11.54 per remaining pay period this fiscal year). It accepted a fraud, waste and abuse policy and added that policy to the county employee handbook. Commissioners also approved edits to the travel and reimbursement policy to update broken links and booking guidance.
Facilities and planning: Staff reported bids to repair windows damaged by hail at the historic courthouse; costs ranged from about $43,000 to $126,000 and the Texas Historical Commission reviewed repair approach. Commissioners authorized Purchasing to issue RFP 2025‑10 for historic courthouse window repair. The court approved a site‑development plan for Willis & Company RV sales and approved the final plat for Roadstone Addition (Lots 1–5, Block 1).
Other business: The court authorized payment of invoices totaling $1,193,951.75, nominated Richard Hayes to fill a vacancy on the Hood Central Appraisal District Board (term to 12/31/2025), and directed the IT department to prepare a cybersecurity contract checklist to include in future contracts. The court recessed to executive session to receive TAC guidance on IT best practices and returned without taking action in closed session.
Votes on the consent and procurement items were unanimous unless otherwise noted in court minutes.
