The Hood County Commissioners unanimously approved a three-year LexisNexis "plus AI" legal-research subscription for the district attorney's office, with the county judge making the motion and Commissioner Sanderson seconding.
DA office representatives said the product performs legal research and drafting tasks faster than the current Westlaw subscription and that the office plans to terminate Westlaw upon implementation. The contract term is three years but is subject to annual budget approval; the DA's office will cover remaining costs for the current fiscal year from its dues/books/subscriptions line item.
Staff told commissioners the county attorney's office and IT staff reviewed contract language for cybersecurity and nondiscrimination provisions; the DA said LexisNexis is CJIS-compliant for functions that require it. Commissioners approved the purchase and left future renewals subject to the county budget process.
The subscription will begin with a minimal pro-rata charge this fiscal year and scale to the full annual cost in the next budget cycle.
