Cerritos council confirms advisory-board appointments and administers oaths to nominees

The Cerritos City Council on March 27 approved nominations to multiple advisory boards and committees and administered the oath of office to nominees in attendance.
City Clerk Cindy Nava reviewed eligibility rules and municipal code constraints, including the city’s anti-nepotism charter provision. Given the council’s earlier decision to delay full implementation of the BCC handbook, the council by consensus waived some handbook-specific appointment requirements (such as completion of handbook training) for the current appointment round so that vacancies could be filled under the existing code.
Council Member Sophia Se, Council Member Jennifer Hong and Council Member Mark Pulido each nominated a slate of candidates for various boards. Nominations included, among others: - Planning Commission: Kira Chauhan (nominated by Se) and Benjamin Au (nominated by Hong), Armin Reyes (nominated by Pulido). - Parks and Recreation Commission: Alex Camargo (Se) and Kathy Sarafka De Leon (Pulido). - Fine Arts & Historical Commission: Rosa Peters (Se) and Kelly Colwell (Hong), Matthew Scammelhorn (Pulido). - Community Safety Committee: Vora Sarg (Se), Daniel Kim (Se), Anne Robles (Se), Mike Ballantine and Jonathan Tan (Hong), Rommel De Leon and Mike Rosario (Pulido). - Property Preservation Commission: Anne Robles (Se) and Brian Ferrer (Pulido). - Let Freedom Ring Committee: Wei Tan and Joseph Sully (Se) among others.
The council moved to approve the nominations and the motion passed (nominations approved by majority, recorded votes varied by motion; one nominations motion passed 5–0). The city clerk administered oaths to appointees present at the meeting and staff committed to coordinate oath and onboarding with those not in attendance.
What this means: The appointments restore membership and allow advisory bodies to resume operations under the current municipal code; if the council later adopts or rescinds handbook provisions tied to advisory bodies, the council may revisit the structure or terms of these appointments.
