The Mission Viejo City Council on March 11 approved a two-year renewal of the Kids Factory contract to deliver after-school programming at all city elementary schools.
City staff told the council the renewed agreement with Saddleback Unified School District comes at a lower rate than the prior two-year contract. Staff recommended keeping the participant fee the same despite the lower contractor rate. Councilmember Goodell moved the item and Councilmember Kelly seconded; the measure passed unanimously.
Council members asked whether the agreement covered all elementary schools and whether services would be reduced; staff confirmed the contract covers all 11 schools and that there would be no reduction in service. Staff said the item had been reviewed by the Community Services Commission before coming to council for approval.
The council voted to authorize staff to execute the two-year contract and continue the after-school program under the presented terms. No amendments or abstentions were recorded.
