Council approved a one‑year pilot to extend the Main Street public parking lot from four to eight hours and to convert a curb space in front of Golden State Coffee Roasters to a 15‑minute turnover spot to improve access for quick errands and support businesses.
The Placentia City Council on June 17 approved a one‑year pilot program to change parking time limits in Old Town Placentia to support local businesses.
City staff said the Main Street public parking lot contains 48 spaces and currently has a 4‑hour limit with no overnight parking. Parking counts from 2023 and recent observations showed the lot rarely reaches full capacity; staff reported a maximum of about 26 cars (roughly 54% occupancy) at peak and a May 2025 photo showing about 10 cars. Staff recommended increasing the lot limit to eight hours to allow business owners and employees to park without moving vehicles mid‑shift.
Staff also proposed converting the curb space in front of 109 West Santa Fe (Golden State Coffee Roasters) from a 2‑hour zone to a 15‑minute spot to improve turnover for quick pickups, coffee runs and delivery services. The Streetscape Transportation and Advisory Commission recommended the pilot; staff cautioned that enforcement is needed to prevent misuse.
A councilmember asked whether the pilot could be ended early if a broader parking program is adopted; staff said the council could end the pilot before one year. The council approved the pilot program by a roll call vote of 4–0 with one not voting (Mayor Pro Tem Ivanka excused).
