The Placentia Public Safety Communications Center reported strong performance in its 2024 annual review to the City Council on Sept. 2, with the dispatch center answering 99.1% of 911 calls within 15 seconds and 99.3% within 20 seconds.
Public Safety Communications Manager Megan Yapeli (also known as Heredia) said the center handled 58,862 incoming calls in the year, including 13,537 emergency 911 calls and 45,325 non‑emergency calls. Fire, medical and police dispatch volumes were described in detail: police calls constitute most incidents (about 34,000), fire calls numbered roughly 1,513 and medical dispatches were about 3,829 (up 7% from the prior year). Yapeli highlighted two 'lifesaver' events in which dispatcher CPR instructions contributed to patient survival.
Yapeli described reaccreditation and training priorities: the center is EMD/EFD certified, achieved ACE accreditation in 2024 (the only ACE‑accredited center in Orange County), and plans to relocate to a new building and pursue law‑enforcement dispatch accreditation through CALEA. Her presentation emphasized ongoing monthly reporting requirements, training exercises (mayday and control room training), and dispatcher wellness programs.
Councilmembers thanked staff and had no additional questions; the presentation closed with an acknowledgment of dispatchers’ critical role in emergency response.
