Placentia honors five years of its Fire & Life Safety Department with ceremony and recognition

The Placentia City Council recognized the fifth anniversary of the Placentia Fire & Life Safety Department at its July 1 meeting, with Chief Dobyn thanking the council for creating a local department and praising firefighters’ service and community engagement. "With your support, we recruited a passionate and skilled team," Chief Dobyn said, recalling the department’s creation and growth since 07/01/2020.
Representatives from state and county offices offered congratulations. Carlos Schwartz, speaking for state Sen. Stephen Choi, congratulated the department on its milestone. Newton Vienkou, a field representative for Assemblymember Philip Chen, and Paulette Chaffee, representing the Orange County supervisor’s office, each delivered remarks and presented certificates. The department also distributed commemorative five‑year challenge coins and presented Lucite display badges for the mayor’s office.
The city read a proclamation recognizing the department’s formation and service, noting training programs, public education efforts, and partnerships that staff said have strengthened local disaster preparedness. The council and department took a group photo and planned to display the commemorative badge in the mayor’s office as a permanent memento.
There was no council action required; the presentation and proclamation were ceremonial. Mayor Kevin Kerwin and councilmembers applauded department members in the chamber.
