The City of Orange City Council approved a three-year employment agreement to appoint Natalie Durian as the city—s next city attorney.
Staff and council described the contract as a three-year agreement with an "evergreen" clause that rolls the agreement forward one year at a time after the initial term. The motion to approve the employment agreement was moved by Councilmember Tavalares and seconded by Councilmember Dimitriou; the council approved the agreement 6 to 1, with Council Member Barrios recorded as voting no.
After the vote, Durian introduced family members in the audience and pledged to carry out the office's responsibilities "with dignity and integrity and dedication." Councilmembers from across the dais congratulated Durian; Council Member Gutierrez highlighted that Durian is the city—s first woman city attorney and noted her immigrant background and trilingual fluency.
No amendments to the employment agreement were recorded at the time of the vote. Council requested that Durian and staff continue working on several ordinance clarifications and follow-up items in the coming weeks.
