Representatives from Waste Management presented a 2024 recap and 2025 outreach schedule to the City Council and linked the city’s efforts to compliance with statewide organics and recycling mandates.
"So for 2024, our metric is for single family homes to make sure that each home has all the containers they need," a Waste Management representative said, listing the three‑container setup (black for trash, blue for recycling and green for organics) and explaining acceptable materials for each container.
The presentation referenced California mandates, identifying SB 1383 as the current statewide goal related to recycling and organics and noting earlier compliance steps for state rules such as AB 1826 and a 2021 recycling regulation. Waste Management said the city is "on track" with the metrics in its service agreement.
The presenters listed several resident events scheduled for 2025: a free shred event on March 22 (City Hall parking lot), a compost workshop on April 5 (Saddleback Conference Room) and a compost giveaway at the animal shelter on May 3. The speakers encouraged residents to check the city website for updates and to register where required.
Waste Management also presented a recycling champion award to Ballpark Pizza for business‑level recycling practices; the city offered one month of free service as a thank‑you.
Council received the update; no regulatory action or change to the city’s contract was announced at the meeting.
