Board approves bond oversight report, recognition resolutions and a slate of student discipline items

At its April 8 meeting the Twin Rivers Unified Board of Trustees accepted the annual report from the Citizens Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC) on bond measures J and K and moved through a block of resolutions and personnel-related votes.
Gurpreet Singh Mangat, chair of the CBOC, reported on oversight activities for Measure J ($120 million for middle and high schools) and Measure K ($150 million for elementary facilities), site visits, and completed and in-progress projects. The board voted to accept the CBOC's 2024-25 report; trustees asked for printed copies to be provided to the board.
The board also read and adopted a slate of ceremonial resolutions recognizing Arab American Heritage Month (Res. 1473), Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (Res. 1474), School Library Month (Res. 1475), National Police Week (Res. 1476), Classified Employees Appreciation (Res. 1477), Certificated Employees Appreciation (Res. 1478), and Principals and Administrators Day (Res. 1479). Each resolution was moved, seconded and carried by roll-call vote.
The board recorded a series of student discipline actions. In open session the clerk announced that several student expulsion cases (including A39-25, A40-25, 841-25 through 847-25) and a readmission (A67-24) were considered following closed session; motions were made, seconded, and carried for each item. The clerk also reported adoption of Resolution 1484 in closed session related to immediate unpaid suspension/dismissal (vote 7-0).
Finally, the board adopted resolutions to pay absent board members Michael Baker (Res. 1481) and Christine Jefferson (Res. 1482); in each case the trustee in question abstained from the related vote and the motion carried. The meeting concluded with superintendent and trustee communications and adjournment.
