The Mission Viejo City Council on June 10 recognized two 18-year-olds, Caden Bunge and Hudson Maline, for pulling two people from a car that became engulfed in flames.
Mayor opened the council meeting by showing a short video of the rescue and presenting certificates of heroism to the two young men. An Orange County Fire Authority representative who responded to the scene described the vehicle as “heavily involved” by the time crews arrived and said the injuries the occupants had suffered made it unlikely they would have escaped unaided. “Hayden and Hudson 100% saved these two people’s lives,” the responder said during remarks to the council.
Kim Carr, representing State Senator Catherine Blakespear’s office, told the council the video gave her “chills” and praised the teens’ willingness to run toward danger. A representative from Congressman Young Kim’s office also presented a small token of appreciation and thanked the pair for their actions.
The council invited the honorees and officials to a group photograph and said the city, county and state offices were grateful for the teens’ courage. The presentation concluded before the meeting moved to public comment.
