The Madison County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution to eliminate the on‑site IT director position and transition county IT support to a managed‑services provider on a one‑year contract that would convert to month‑to‑month if continued.
The chair said the county already uses managed services in a hybrid arrangement and that moving to a fully managed model would involve no setup cost, no downtime and projected savings. The contract was presented as a one‑year term to allow the board to return to an on‑site model if needed.
One supervisor opposed the change, saying the county’s prior experience with on‑site IT improved responsiveness and that sending support outside the county risks job loss and slower service. That supervisor noted the on‑site technician supports the sheriff’s office cell phones and day‑to‑day issues and expressed concern about sending local jobs out of the county.
Other supervisors defended the move as a cost-saving measure while preserving continuity through a contract that provides multiple remote technicians and quicker backup coverage than a single on‑site employee. The board approved the measure by motion and recorded roll-call procedures were used.
