Trustees at the Moreno Valley Unified School District meeting on Sept. 9 adopted a package of recognitions and resolutions, advanced multiple capital modernization projects via lease‑leaseback approvals and authorized staff to pursue grant funding for electric buses.
Kaiser Permanente representatives presented the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s "America’s Healthiest Schools" designations to Chaparral Hills Elementary and Valley View High School for work on family engagement, social‑emotional learning and staff well‑being. "We're dedicated to helping the children of our community be their healthiest selves," said David Matza of Kaiser Permanente.
The board adopted proclamations recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15–Oct. 15), October as Bullying Prevention and Awareness Month, World Mental Health Day (Oct. 10), Week of the School Administrator and National School Lunch Week; student leaders and school staff accepted the resolutions and described related activities planned for the fall.
On facilities, staff briefed trustees on a slate of modernization projects across elementary and secondary sites. The board approved lease‑leaseback resolutions authorizing preconstruction, site‑lease, leaseback and construction services agreements for Creekside, Sunny Meadows, Box Springs and Sugar Hill elementary modernization projects; district staff indicated guaranteed maximum prices will return to the board for approval in upcoming meetings and said the projects remain eligible for state funding.
Business staff also asked the board to authorize Chief Business Official Susanna Lopez to apply for a South Coast Air Quality Management District grant (up to $1.5 million) to replace older school buses with zero‑emission electric buses and install charging infrastructure; the board approved that authorization unanimously.
During the meeting trustees asked staff to research a pilot comparing traditional bidding versus a project labor agreement (PLA) for future elementary modernizations, and to standardize hydration‑station goals for schools. The meeting concluded with direction for staff to return with additional reports on these items and on behind‑the‑wheel driver‑education options.
