Board approves modernization GMPs for two schools and new Prop 28-funded arts positions

Ridgecrest Elementary's GMP was listed at $10.6 million with a recommended district contingency of $750,000. Butterfield (listed as Butterfield Elementary School for construction filings; now Butterfield Language Academy) had a GMP of $14.6 million and a district contingency of $1,000,000. Trustees voted to approve the associated lease-leaseback amendments and GMPs.
On staffing, the district proposed new job descriptions funded by Proposition 28 to expand arts offerings. Doctor Verdi said the itinerant positions for art, dance, music and theater are required to meet Prop 28 requirements (80% of those funds must be allocated to student-facing staffing) and the board approved the job descriptions, including a new speech-language pathologist job description intended to reduce reliance on outside contractors.
Both facility and job-description items passed on unanimous or near-unanimous votes; staff will proceed with contract execution and recruitment processes.
