Board approves bargaining objectives and accepts MVEA sunshine proposal for next cycle

The Moreno Valley Unified School District Board voted to approve the district's bargaining objectives for the 2025-26 cycle and to accept the Moreno Valley Educators Association's (MVEA) sunshine proposal, setting priorities ahead of formal negotiations.
Doctor Verdi summarized the district's objectives and noted the district added grievance procedures and transfers to its sunshine proposal this cycle: "The usual reopeners for bargaining are salaries, employee benefits, and school calendars along with evaluation, and we're also adding the grievance procedures and transfers to our sunshine proposal this year," Verdi said.
The association's sunshine submission similarly covered automatic reopeners and added class size and hours/assignment topics. The board opened public hearings, took no public testimony, and approved the procedural motions to open and close the hearings and to accept the proposals. Votes were recorded as carried or noted as 4-1 absent where procedural attendance affected tallies.
Next steps: district negotiators and MVEA will proceed to bargaining sessions under the approved objectives and sunshine proposals; administrators will report progress to the board.
