Board recognizes student achievements, adopts K–2 reading screener and multiple policies

At the May 28 meeting trustees heard student reports and recognitions and approved several policy items.
A March Mountain High School student described campus activities and academic achievements; Canyon Springs senior Helen Rodriguez Garcia was introduced as a recipient of two State Seals of Biliteracy for French and Spanish. Trustees and the superintendent praised student achievements as examples of the district’s portrait of a graduate.
The board unanimously approved Resolution No. 2024‑25‑98 recognizing June 2025 as LGBTQ Pride Month and Resolution No. 2024‑25‑99 recognizing the United Nations' Global Day of Parents (June 1). District and community representatives accepted both recognitions and emphasized inclusion and family engagement.
On instructional policy, trustees adopted a state‑approved K–2 reading screener (M‑Class/DIBELS) that must be administered to all kindergarten through second‑grade students to identify risk for reading difficulties. Staff said the screener is a battery of short tasks and that implementation supports and training will be provided to teachers.
