Summary
Principals and district leaders highlighted transcript audits, A–G recovery courses, high-impact tutoring and plans for an Early College High School with an HBCU pathway and partnerships to grow dual enrollment.
District leaders and school principals told the board they are expanding strategies to improve college and career readiness indicators, including transcript audits, A–G recovery courses, and a planned early college expansion.
At Vista Del Lago High School, Principal Matt McCain described transcript-analysis work and A–G recovery classes that run during the school day. "We have implemented A through G recovery courses and we have 6 sections," McCain said, adding that high-impact tutoring and mentor teachers support those classes. McCain said the school's A–G readiness rate was 41.6% in 2024 and the school projects about 50% for the senior class in 2025, with an aspirational three-year target near 65% if current efforts scale.
Districtwide access concerns: Dr. Arce noted the district's middle college program currently admits roughly 50 students across the district, which limits access. District staff described dual enrollment as serving about 500 students now and said the number of dual-enrollment courses has doubled over the past four years. Staff announced plans for an Early College High School with an HBCU pathway and preliminary partnerships with Moreno Valley College and Cal State San Bernardino to expand college-credit opportunities and dual-enrollment capacity.
Why it matters: Improving A–G completion and HSRI (High School Readiness Indicator) is central to increasing postsecondary options. District leaders framed early-college expansion and transcript audits as strategies to raise attainment and create more equitable pathways for students who would not otherwise have access to college-level coursework in high school.
Next steps: District staff will continue meetings with interested teachers and post-secondary partners and will consolidate school and team recommendations into the LCAP update for board review ahead of county and state submission in June.
