Board votes unanimously to rescind Vinewood Elementary—s uniform policy

Peter Lambert, area director for Area 2, presented a request from Vinewood Elementary asking the board to rescind the school—s uniform policy and described the school—s process and voting outcome.
"At this evening's board meeting, we'd like to present the request to rescind Vinewood Elementary's policy uniform policy," Lambert said. He introduced Ben Coe from Vinewood, who presented a chronological timeline and the results of the school vote. Coe reported that 81.8% of returned votes were "Yes" in the local process.
Board members praised the thoroughness of the school's work and noted the school—s recent recognition as a California Distinguished School. Several board members said they supported the school—s due process that led to the recommendation.
A motion to approve the resolution was moved and seconded; student representatives voted "Aye." The board voted to approve the rescission 7–0.
Board members asked the students present for comment; a student said she personally likes uniforms but acknowledged the community decision. The board thanked Vinewood staff and students for their work on the issue and for the packet of materials submitted with the school's request.
The board approved the resolution with no reported amendments.
