Michelle Grant, the county auditor, told the Madison County Board of Supervisors that the auditor’s office has completed account setup and that the two‑tier tax report (due Sept. 2) was submitted on Sept. 4 without assessed penalties. Grant said the auditor’s office has used approximately 13 hours of outside vendor support since August and that the vendor quoted an additional one‑time charge of about $1,080 to complete tax processing through the end of the cycle.
Grant said she and the treasurer are finalizing balancing and that a formal public statement about the tax status would be released by the end of the following day or as soon as staff finish reconciliations. She also said special‑election payments to poll workers and other expenses are still being processed and that the office is evaluating whether a budget amendment will be needed to cover November city and school election costs.
Board members asked whether additional vendor expenses require board approval; Grant replied that if the expense fits her budget it would not require a separate board motion. She said she will present training quotes and a fuller budget impact for future action.
Grant praised staff performance and asked the board to allow time to complete required steps to ensure accuracy before public release. The board thanked her and requested dated public notices on the website when statements are posted.
