The Board of Supervisors considered a resolution to hire Louis Reebman as a part-time second deputy in the auditor’s office, effective Sept. 24. County Auditor (Speaker 4) said the additional staff time is needed to address record corrections and workload. Several supervisors questioned whether the county’s current finances could support the hire immediately given that tax revenues may be delayed (treasurer-certified statements and a 30-day payment window).
Concerns included that some budget lines have been heavily used this fiscal year and the county could face cash-flow pressure until tax receipts are collected. One supervisor noted the auditor’s office was at about 24% of its budget at the time of discussion. After extended discussion the original motion to hire lost its second and a subsequent motion to table the resolution until the county’s financial picture is clearer passed by voice vote.
The board left open the possibility of revisiting the hire after staff and board members examine current balances and potential budget amendments.
