Commission keeps monthly evening meeting for now, will reassess in six months

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners debated whether to permanently move the third regular monthly meeting to 6:30 p.m. and, after extended public testimony in favor of evening meetings, voted to continue the current evening schedule and to reassess in six months.
Proponents — including many residents who said daytime meetings made attendance difficult for workers and parents — urged retaining at least one evening meeting each month. Opponents cited winter weather, staff overtime and a standing scheduling conflict with a joint meeting held with Sioux Falls. Commissioner Otten said she had heard constituents who do not want to travel at night; other commissioners emphasized the importance of public access. One commissioner argued evening meetings help preserve public input opportunities and cited prior large turnout at night meetings.
Ultimately the board approved a motion to continue evening meetings for the near term and to reassess attendance and costs in six months. The board noted that existing standing conflicts (a joint meeting with the City of Sioux Falls) will be managed by scheduling adjustments as needed.
